Gap year

Planning a year out commencing September 2013? What about spending it with the Crown Jesus Team?

We have developed a GAP year programme that offers you the opportunity to join a busy and exciting team in order to gain new skills and valuable ministry experience. You will enjoy many aspects of Christian service.

How does it work?

Each individual will be required to work at least 3 days a week with the ministry. This can obviously fluctuate depending on weekend commitments and other activities. The rest of the time is available for part time jobs, further studies and relaxing (which is very much needed).

How long is it for?

The gap year runs from September to June. Generally speaking we work from 9am – 5pm. However, school assemblies mean an earlier start is required some mornings. Again we are flexible and if we start early, we end early! The same goes for evening work – if we have to work late we can make the time up another day.

Is there a cost?

Unlike other gap year programmes, a gap year with Crown Jesus Ministries does not cost anything financially. Each gap year however is encouraged to get a part time job to help support themselves and raise some funds for the future.

Residential?

We do not offer residence and gap years are expected to travel from home each day.

What will I be doing?

Gap years are involved in many different aspects of the ministry. The aim is to give a holistic view of what goes on within Crown Jesus Ministries. However, the obvious focus will be on youth, kids and schools ministry. Here is a list of some of the things you would be involved in -

  • Primary school assemblies
  • Klass Kids after schools club
  • Puppet training/Puppet ministry
  • Scritpure Union meetings
  • R.E. Classes
  • Post primary school outreach events
  • General administration
  • Family services
  • Streetreach programmes
  • Citywide evangelistic projects
  • Weekends away

The great benefit of a gap year with Crown Jesus is that every day is completely different and you have the opportunity to work alongside and meet many different people. The team dynamic is very strong in the ministry and so being a team player is very important.

What about my church commitments?

There will be some weekend work required but we are flexible. If you are involved in your home church we would never demand for you to leave that as we believe your priority belongs there. However, we do encourage gap years to get involved in various church work to broaden their knowledge of church life.

Spiritual growth?

We hope that the gap year will provide an environment to develop and learn your spiritual gifts and with Bible studies and prayer times there is an emphasis not just on the doing but also learning and growing spiritually.

This is a time when individuals can continue to grow within a team environment, where they can develop their gifts and begin to discover God’s plan for their future. We hope friendships will be made, people will be blessed and encouraged, but most of all that God will be glorified.
